Things I Love Thursday: Halloween edition

Nike on Elm Street. How badass are these Freddy Krueger themed shoes?

Belle Gunness: The Terror of La Porte. This bitch was cray-cray. She killed at least 25 people, including numerous husbands, male suitors, young girls, and even her own three children.

8 Prolific Female Serial Killers. You don’t hear about female serial killers too often, but mental_floss gives a brief synopsis of eight brutal lady killers, including Belle Gunness.

The Body on Somerton Beach. A pretty creepy unsolved mystery. via the mental_floss blogs.

This zombie children’s book on BuzzFeed.

These pictures of people being scared at the Nightmares Fear Factory haunted house.

The Dark Side of the Placebo Effect: When Intense Belief Kills. I wrote before about how I’ve experienced sleep paralysis, and it’s a really scary thing. This article is about 117 men who died mysteriously in their sleep, and some really fascinating research about the connection between spiritual beliefs and physical health.

Pop Culture Serial Killers We Love to Love.

The Bongcheon-Dong Ghost. I didn’t think it was possible for a comic to be scary, but this actually made me jump. via Caragh.

This crocheted interpretation of The Exorcist. via BuzzFeed.

While researching for my guest post on Mary Rebecca’s blog, I came across some YouTube videos of photographs and actual sound recordings made during the exorcism of Anneliese Michel, whose story serves as the basis for one of my favorite horror movies, The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Her story is fascinating but also very disturbing. Images and audio are not for the easily rattled.

My guest post hasn’t been published yet, but you should check out all the others, and read about Mary Rebecca’s awesome October sponsors.

Dexter decor. A dining room and kitchen inspired by Dexter. via four-eyes rella.

This collection of scary stories by Alvin Schwartz used to scare the piss out of me when I was a kid, mostly because of the extremely weird and insanely creepy illustrations by Stephen Gammell.

Weird, right? And unsettling?

These idiotic pictures of me in my three most recent Halloween costumes. Snoogans.

I’m recycling my hot dog costume this year, and Gretchen ordered this sexy ketchup bottle costume, since probably no one would get the joke if we dressed up as 2 Broke Girls.
